Radioactive Decay

Radioactive Decay Simulation

This is a simulation of random decay in a sample of radioactive atoms. You can choose from three sample sizes. The sample is represented by a blue rectangle or square. When you click "Go" white spots are drawn as each atom decays and a graph plots the percentage of un-decayed atoms remaining as time progresses.

You can change the probability of an atom's decay and so alter the rate at which the sample of atoms decays. Also you can choose to display a theoretical decay curve and compare this with the simulation results.

Probability of decay (0.001 ≤ p ≤ 0.05):

Sample size: 100   1,000   10,000
